I will talk about the 16gb Ipod touch instead of the 8gb so it would give you a better idea to where you would stand at. To begin, the only difference between an Ipod touch and an ipod is just 1. Touch screen 2. Webbrowser. 3. Screen size

Lets begin our talk, the touch screen is nothing new these days especially when you see it too often. It sounds good if you like to show off about how cool it it is. The webbrowser is another thing that is different on the Ipod touch. Now with the ability to surf the web on your own time as long as there is wi-fi (wireless network around). The biggest notice you will notice is the screen size of the ipod. Most initial respond will be wow, thats big. But please remember that the resolution for the ipod touch and ipod is the same. I think its like 350×320 something. If the resolution stays the same, and the screen size is increase, you might not like what you see. Yes the video quality will be dramatically reduce. Now with that being said, a 16gb is good if you have no more than 3000songs and some music video.

Technically it goes something:
1. Songs=4000
2. Videos (music video) ~ 350=45mg video
3. Video =22 videos.

So technically if you had something like this:

1. 2000 songs——— 8gb
2. 100 video music— 4.5gb
3. 5Movies————- 3.5gb

This is an example of one of the combination you may have. But the actual would be less because a small portion of your IPOD TOUCH harddrive is reserve for all those data. So you would technically have like 15gb something only.

Also please understand, if you planned on purchasing music video from ipod, wow that will add up quick. If you plan on just dragging music video to your ipod because you downloaded it, you will have another conflict, thats where the conversion takes place. Its gonna cost you. Also understand that because this ipodtouch has all these features, you will face battery life problem. Try watching 1movie, 20music video and 30 songs and see where you end up in your battery life. I mean just finish one movie alone and notice your battery. The only comment i have to say is that only ipod can pull off a 400 dollar product. There commercial is great for selling IPod but not other products thats where the fine line is drawn. I hope you also understand that Ipod does go through alot of changes every 6month to a year. Always seem to be a newer ipod and older version gets discontinue pretty quick. My personal view, is that you wait on this, but if you really just really have to get an ipod, I would go for a classic ipod video for much much less.
P.S. I hope you drop by a electronics store and sample the ipodtouch first before letting your irrational decision take over. Also, please check out the zune 80gb while you’re at it. It doesn’t hurt you to check out the competition. Make sure you sample it at the store, the screen is very decend for its size and for the ease of it, at $225dollars it hard to beat. For your Ipodtouch,

Lets say:

1. IPOD TOUCH————– $400
2. Protective screen cover– $15
3. Case cover—————- $25
4. Conversion softwarez— $40
5. AC Adapter—————– $30
6. Tax————————— $35~

Total—————————- $545

If this isn’t too much then go for it, but if you wait, the prices should change but not by much. Go for classic.

The first sales of IPOD TOUCH AND IPHONE were overpriced by the Apple, notice that they gave 100dollars refund to those who first initially bought the phone. And suddenly they drop the 4gb off the market and kept the 8gb so people would have no choice but to purchase a 400dollar phone +20month fee for media usage on top of your plan. (even if you have some sort of media package already). LOL. Easily scratch is one of those features, for a screen that size, you have to be extra careful as well.

Basically the example would be cut in half in terms of the 8gb that you would be spending on.
