Basic Windows Movie Maker Problem?
I just bought a HP AMD quad core A6-3650 and I didn’t like the Movie Maker that comes with it so I downloaded the free, basic one online that I used to have on my old PC and loved( I think it’s the 6.1 version). Here is the problem: I can preview gifs and pics, but I can’t see a thing when I move everything to the time line. Somebody said to download a version from here : http://movies.blainesville.com/p/wmm-60-on-windows-7.html . Mine is the 64 bit one and it won’t download in the PC… Any other ideas? Thank you.

Hi again. Blaine’s WMM 6.0 should download and install without problems. Hundreds of Movie Maker users have downloaded it without problems. Did you uninstall the first one you installed? Go to Start>Control Panel>Programs and Features. Give it a minute to populate (to list all the installed programs). Find the first version of WMM 6.0 you installed, click once on it to highlight it and then click the Uninstall button. Click “Yes” in the pop up asking if you really want to uninstall it. After this version is uninstalled, try installing Blaine’s download again.
If you still have problems, click my avatar and email me. Let me know where you downloaded the first one from and, if possible, provide a link. This can tell a lot about what might be wrong. If you still have problems, I can contact Blaine for you.

I hope the v6.0 download was combined with a Windows 7 compiler. If it wasn’t, then Movie Maker wasn’t completely installed. If the download didn’t specifically say that it is for Windows 7, then I’d uninstall it and install this download which I know will work on Windows 7 computers (because it’s the one I installed on my own W7 machine).

How to get rid of a neighbour?
Okay I have a neighbour, a 29yr old obese aboriginal pregnant lesbian. She lives in one of the units next to me. She always comes over every single day. The main reason is so she can use my internet. She doesn’t have the internet herself & doesn’t want to pay for it anyway. She also knows I’m on a 200gb monthly download plan & so she knows she can basically download whatever she wants, music & movies etc. She has never had a computer or the internet, until she used mine. Now she is addicted & she comes over all the time to use it. I don’t care about her using up a lot of the gb’s every month cuz I have more then enough anyway. But it is her herself that I do not like. We are just to very different people & she really annoys me. I hate just being in the same room with her. Although I have never told her I don’t like her cuz that would just be awkward. So I basically pretend to like her & talk to her & put up with her. She comes over, takes over the computer, takes over the internet, even takes over the fridge, & makes the place her own. It’s like I’m the guest & she does whatever she wants. She smokes & drinks & stinks up the place. I don’t smoke or drink & hate the smell of it. She has little respect for me & my property. She makes a mess constantly which I have to clean up. She has a couple of kids which she brings over & they drive me crazy. They are so loud & climb all over my furniture & me. And damage software on my computer. I’m constantly fixing stuff she & her kids does to my computer. The kids use my toilet & I don’t even wanna go into what happens there. She also brings over her lover who is much like her & I don’t like her either but again I pretend to like her. I often pretend to be asleep when she knocks on my door, but she keeps on knocking all day every day at EVERY hour of the day till I answer. I work online at home so I can’t get away from her by going to work. I also can’t get much done while she’s around. I go out more now just to get away from her. I leave her at my place & just take off for a few hours hoping she’ll be gone when I get back (most of the time she’s still there). I even just go wandering off on to the streets & circle the block a few times cuz I have nowhere else to go really. (that’s just sad I know) I make excuses about my computer or internet not working for a while so she wont come over as much. I do as much as I can to avoid her. But in the end she just keeps coming back & I have to deal with it. I can’t move out yet I have nowhere to go. I can’t just go off at her & tell her I hate her & her lover & to stay out of my life. It would just be so awkward cuz we live right next to each other. She already knows she annoys me a bit but she doesn’t realize just how bad I hate her. I don’t want to hate her but she makes it so damn hard not too. I know the obvious thing you’d be thinking is just tell her to f*** off, but I don’t want to hurt her feelings. Plus it’s just really awkward, & I’m too nice. Well if you made it this far reading all this crap, do you have any advice on what I should do? Besides shooting myself to end the depression that is getting worse & worse! (I know she’ll be banging on my door any minute now too) =(

I can’t find it in myself to feel sorry for you as you created the whole situation yourself.
If you’re not happy with it, change it.
Period.
Whatever that takes, do it.
Let her know the current situation has become unacceptable.
Be blunt, don’t just hint at what you want to change as she seems like the type that won’t take you seriously.
Personally, if I didn’t smoke, and she started smoking in my place, THAT’S where I would have drawn the line.
Then she would have realized that you weren’t so nice of a person as you seem to be, and wouldn’t have taken the liberties that she has with you and your kindness.
You don’t have to become a mean person in order to change things for the better.
Just change her thinking so that she knows you won’t put up with some things that she’s taking for granted.
I mean, her kids damaging your equipment; your livelihood; that alone is so unacceptable as to be just plain evil..

Dell laptop DVD software question. Downgrading?
I have a Dell Inspiron (ME051) laptop (that’s a few years old now) which came preloaded with a DVD viewing program called PowerDVD. I have no idea what version of PowerDVD it was, but recently it prompted me to upgrade to PowerDVD 8 and I HATE IT!!! It’s constantly skipping, even with brand new DVDs and even after I’ve run a lens cleaning disc through it. I can’t stand version 8!!!! Does anyone have any idea how I can downgrade to whatever version came preinstalled on my laptop? I’m having a hard time even finding out what version that was. I believe it was version 5.1, but the only version I can find online for download is version 5.0 (trial version only). What do I do??? I really liked the program before I upgraded. Now it makes it very hard to get through a movie without a cursing fit and a desire to throw my laptop across the room. I’m trying to get an answer from Dell also, but I’m sure I’ll get faster help from someone here.
Please no suggestions for some other program to try. I liked my original PowerDVD program and I’m really only interested in getting that one back. Thanks!!

Here is your answer.
Power DVD is an entry level program that is fair on it’s best day.
DVD Fomating is always changing and thus power dvd hardly works with the changes that are always beeing made.
VLC is an open source Video and Audio Player that is always up to date and will play anything you throw it’s way. It is FREE as well.
To date it is probably the best there is out there.

OK i basically hate window. i hav 3yrs old laptop and i think its time 4 CHANGE!
New vista is piece of crap imao and xp is fine but window gets so much bad stuff like viruses and melware

im a student so i do pretty much common student stuff like listening to music, writing papers, making powerpoints, etc…
i DO NOT play games cuz i play xbox 360
AND i watch TONS of movies/tv shows online like every freakin single day. So i assume that they are downloading right? (95% legal haha)
anyway, should i get macbook or MBP?
I heard both of them are fast but i want smooth and longlasting laptop that i can use 4 long long long time. (i would really luv to hav 15′ instead of 13′ btw
or…..pc?

Why don’t you try installing Linux on the laptop you have… It is easy to do and will breathe life back into it. I included information on how to do this, if this is not an option for you I would get another PC.. Don’t take anyone’s opinion here without looking at factual information. To many people have opinions without knowing enough information…
With the Mac you are paying significantly more for lower spec hardware.
Why? Because people don’t realize that Mac uses a subset of PC hardware…

If you decide to buy a Mac for running Windows, you will still have to get the same virus/spyware protection, and run into the same issues as a regular PC.
Now is OS X worth buying a Mac?
I would say no… For the following reasons…
WINDOWS ADVANTAGES:
Aprox 90% of the market is Windows. Most PCs include windows already pre-installed.
1) A number of websites still require Internet Explorer to view and IE for Mac Stinks (it is really ies4osx which is the Windows IE version running really buggy on OS X and illegal if you don’t have a legitimate copy of Windows, too many problems with it).
2) More supported peripherals (printers and other things you hook into the computer) on Windows.
3) Many more games
4) Like the Dock on OS X (Mac)? Google/yahoo rocketdock, objectdoc.
LINUX ADVANTAGES:
1) Install Linux, and then get tons of software for free.Update software easily and automatically. (Checking a checkbox in either two ways to install (Add/Remove or Synaptic Package Manager), search for something you want, check a box and click apply)
2) Like the Mac OS X effects? Go yahoo/google COMPIZ FUSION. It can do just about any cool effect a Mac can do and more…

VIRUSES
Mac OS X has viruses (which is significantly on the rise), a friend of mine has a virused Mac. As more users use Macs, more viruses will come out for it. Especially when users think “they are safe”.

SECURITY
Mac OS X was hacked in 2006 under 30 minutes, and hacked within 2 minutes in a contest in 2008. Linux and Vista were not able to be hacked until another day when restrictions were lowered.
All macs are standardized with Cameras, if your system gets hacked, the hacker would more likely be able to turn on your camera.

QUALITY/PROBLEMS
Contrary to belief, Macs are not better quality. Apple also has been changing suppliers to try to “lower the price” and thus lowering quality. Even with the lower prices, Macs still cost more, they spend a higher percent of budget trying to make it look pretty, and marketing.
Sample of problems: Overheating Macbooks, OS X- not responding to keyboard, some units with 16bit screens, etc. Apple statistics are misleading since Mac users with problem machines are more likely to go out and buy a new computer than PC users. Apple is lowering prices which means you can expect lower quality than in the past. Apple had switched the manufacturers producing parts. OS X also has problems slowing down.

Repairs are more expensive than PCs since the IMac, Mac Mini are compact units, and Apple charges a premium for their services. Some repairs can be done by another repair service but the compact design of the computer causes problems.
With an IMac, if the problem is with the monitor, the whole computer would have to be brought in.

PLEASE NOTE: I’m comparing Apple Mac’s vs Dells best deal. If you decide that you must have an all-in one. The Dell all-in-one has more ram, wireless keyboard and mouse and equivalent to $400 for free making the Imac still more expensive when you upgrade the Imac to try to match. Personally I don’t think the All-in-Ones are a good choice, and consider them overpriced, lack expandability and repairs both more expensive and require the entire computer.
PS: Apple knows that they must make Macintosh look different than PC so all Macs except the Mac Pro will not have a tower option. Apple’s low end lacks expandability but it makes the Mac “look different”, if Mac had a tower for low-end, more people would realize the similarities between the two.
