John asks…

is it legal to download movies from limewire?

Nagesh answers:

File sharing is perfectly legal no matter what anybody says. If you mass produce those files for a profit, then you are breaking the law. So the answer to your question is Yes, unless you are making a profit.

Donald asks…

Are these legal sites to download movies from?

http://www.movies-tv.com/
http://themovie-downloading.com/www2/

if not? what else can i do???

Nagesh answers:

That chick on the second site is pretty hot.
Yes they are legal because you pay for them, same as if you bought a copy at the dvd store to keep, they are cheaper obviously because you will only have it on file and not the convenience of a disk with cover etc, as well as there is no cost to pay store attendants/staff.

If you want them for free you should just download torrent files.
then go to
www.kickasstorrents.com

Maria asks…

movies that are still at theaters legal to download?

I would think it would be againts the law to download any movies that are still out at the theaters but I have been told that on some sites its legal, but it cost more then going to the theater to see it.

If it is in fact legal anyone know of sites that i can go to, I have yet to find any site that sells them few say free so the people who made the movies wont get any money so they sure as heck would not have give them publishing rights or what ever you want to call it, to them.

I even called the MPAA and ask them if they knew or knew where i could go to find out what sites was legal and what was not, and they told me that they dont give legal advice, so hard to find what is legal and what is not, heck i figure there are sites u pay to use, that it says its legal but its really not. people do lie ;p thanks for reading

Betty asks…

Is it legal to download movies/games/MP3s of the net, IF you already own them but have lost them?

I have lost and broken a couple of my good classic games and movies [ 🙁 ] and wouldn’t want to re buy them, so is it legal to download them off the net if you can prove you’ve actually bought them?

Nagesh answers:

The idea of backups as fair use of media has long been in contention. VCR recording was declared legal by the courts, but modern methods of copy protection have been upheld as well. The law differs in varying areas and by individual copyright holder’s judgment.

Generally, it’s not legal. The terms of sale are of the physical media (CDs/DVDs) themselves, not of the content. There’s a reason that online game services such as Steam are picking up well, steam. Access to your games is not controlled via physical media in that case, and you can re-download the game for free legally as part of the purchase agreement. Same goes for other such services such as Desura, and you can find some classics at Good Old Games.

Some copyright holders might be cool with the downloads if you have proof of purchase, but it’s no guarantee and really isn’t worth that risk.
