Your Questions About Frys

Betty asks…

cooking chicken in a frying pan?

i’m wanting to cook some chicken breasts tomorrow in a frying pan instead of an oven.
I’m planning on using the chicken for a salad and sandwiches, is this a ok way to cook chicken for sandwiches?
or would i have to do it in the oven?

silly question i know, but i’ve only ever cooked chicken in a frying pan for curry’s or stir frys.

Nagesh answers:

Nope pan is fine. All you need is a couple TS of olive oil. Seasoned the chicken how you want. Have pan just above medium. Add oil, add chicken. It should be sizzling a little. Depending on how thick the breast are i would say average time on first side would be 4 to 5 min. Flip and 3 to 4. Once done cover it with lid and let it rest a few minutes

Laura asks…

How to tell if swordtail frys are male/females?

How can you tell if swordtail frys are female/male

Nagesh answers:

While they are still fry, you can’t.

As they grow, watch the ventral fins. The males will become stick like, and the females stay like a fan. That’s the only way to know for sure, but they need to be a couple of months old before you can tell.

Sandy asks…

When frying chicken drumsticks what oil is best for you from a health perspective?

Fry in frying pan or better to get a deep fryer?

Nagesh answers:

Don’t use olive oil. It has a low smoke point and will break down into nasty stuff. Use canola oil, corn oil, mixed vegetable oil or peanut oil. It doesn’t much matter to the finished product if you deep fry or shallow fry. Shallow-frying takes longer because you have to turn the food.

Chris asks…

How do you get homemade french fries to be crispy?

I fry potato slices in oil and afterwards they always end up soggy. How can i avoid that and make them crispy?

Nagesh answers:

You have to fry at a lower temperature the first time, like 350, drain and then 375 the second time.
