Daniel asks…

Are you a member of Direct Buy?

I realize that it costs about 10,000.00 to join Direct Buy, and I am really wondering how much you can save while doing renovations. If you are spending around 25000.00 on kitchen and 10,000.00 on bathrooms, is it worth joining? Please give examples if you have any. Thanks.

I’ve actually ready about Direct Buy and what a scam they are. I don’t remember the website, but the jist was pretty much that it was an unbelievably high pressure sales pitch, complete with them being down right rude and personally insulting to you if you decide not to be interested. You go to the direct buy show room for your sales pitch, they take your info, keep pressuring you to buy buy buy the membership. If you want to go home to think about it or aren’t sure, they let you know what a moron you are to be passing up the oppourtunity and how pretty much, once you leave you can never come back again. So you MUST buy you membership right then and there. The examples of products you can purchase that they provide are extremely vague so you don’t even really know what you can get, and from what I read of people who were trapped in contracts, the money they “saved” wasn’t enough to be worth all the trouble they had been dealing with from the company.

David asks…

i am looking for info on shopping pitch from buydirect. does anyone have infor on costs to join/benefits?

I have heard commercials for buying outfit called “direct buy” I understand you have to go as couples to a showroom for a salespitch–seems very secretive. Can’t just walk into a showroom–need to buy into a membership. Is it expensive? Has anyone done it? Pros or Cons? Thanks so much-Watter

Nagesh answers:

Hang on to your chair since I’m about to tell you the price. It took ALOT of coaxing to get the price information upfront. I finally told them I lived in the country and the price of gas was too high to come in just to discuss membership. I told them I’m assuming you have nice stuff but it will do me no good to look at it unless I know I can afford the membership. I finally got the answer – $5,000!!!!!!!! Yes, that is the membership fee. I guess this marketing gimick is geared to contractors and interior decorators or to individuals furnishing an entire new home. I told the lady my budget for the new furniture I was shopping for was only $3,000. I would look into it if we knew someone with a membership who would let us pay them and buy the stuff for us. That’s what we do at Sams Warehouse when I go shopping there with a friend. They have a membership and we don’t. Secretive always equals expensive. This goes for the sleep number beds and the DR Trimmer. If you have to ask, it’s too expensive. At least, that’s how I feel when I ask and get the answer.

Laura asks…

How much does it cost to join the Direct Buy Home Furnishing stores? (www.directbuy.com)?

Direct Buy is a furniture, appliance, electronics, flooring, kitchen, bath – you name it for the home, and they have it – kind of store. I know there are several across the country, and there’s one by me.

We are looking to purchase out first home and I was wondering if it was worthwhile to join, as we are starting with practically nothing.

Sharon asks…

What happens if you don’t show to your scheduled Direct Buy appointment you agreed to?

Recently I had gone to a bridal expo and had signed up for a chance to “win a honeymoon trip” at the Direct Buy booth. The next day I get a phone call from a representative saying I won the trip, but I had to sit through the presentation to lean about Direct Buy first at the showroom. I wanted to give the trip to my friend whom I had gone the expo with for a present so I agreed on attending the meeting with my bf at a set time and date. I was going to sit through the presentation and hand off the trip to my friend. After hanging up, I decided to research this occurance and found a lot of unhappy people and that the “free trip” is actually going to be coupons and not an actual trip. Now my bf and want to back out and not show up and waste our day to a sales pitch and pressure. Has anyone backed out before? Will we be harrassed by them for not “keeping our word” to show up? We are probably just not going to show. Advice? I am getting ready to get the spam button in my email ready as well as blocking the phone number. Advice?

Nagesh answers:

Sure you can back out. The whole thing is “bait and switch”, an old sales trick. There’ll be two empty chairs in the room, that’s all.

If there’s a phone number where you can reach them, it would be courteous to notify them that you won’t be able to come to their presentation after all.
