I would have to side with the folks who call it a grey area. The fact is that you are allowed to create a back-up of your media, both CD’s, DVD’s and software.
According to the law, you need to own the original to make a back-up. I do not think that the source matter. Regardless, you can check out http://www.groboid.com , they have a huge selection of full DVD downloads, as well as compressed versions.
I’d go ahead and download it if the repair kit doesn’t work. You paid for it, you won’t get in trouble. (At least I highly doubt it.)

Is this kind of download legal?
So I want to download a live show that someone filmed and I was wondering if that’s legal or not??( Off of Megaupload) The video itself is not copyrighted and the owner of the recording gave me permission to download it. It’s not a like a movie or a music video or something.
For viruses I’ll scan it before downloading but I seriously do not want to do something illegal and it doesn’t seem illegal at all. Please let me know 🙂 thanks!
