Nancy asks…

Is the pirate bay a good place to download music and/or movies? Is there a better site out there?

I want to download music and movies, but want to avoid any chance at legal troubles or viruses.

I understand the pirate bay will also require another program to convert torrents into mp3s to use on my iTunes. Can someone explain?

Nagesh answers:

The Pirate Bay is not a good place to download music. The people who made the site have just been sent to prison…

There are loads of sites offering music downloads legally and cheaply. Mp3obsession.com reviews sites like that, give one of them a go.

Cheapfilms.net does the same for movie download sites.

Hope that helps you. Both sites can be used with iTunes.

Sandra asks…

Should Downloading Pirated Movies Off The Internet Be Legal?

I personally think that it is a victimless crime, because no one gets hurt physically (obviously), mentally, and economically. The rich movie industries don’t lose money because of hackers, or whatever you would call them. I wonder how much the movie makes make more of, the movie itself, or the how many dvd buys they have… Anyways, I would really like to know your opinions.

Nagesh answers:

It is not a victimless crime. The hackers get a merchandize (movie) without paying to the owner or his distributors. Being a rich company does not gives the right to the hacker to get a product without paying for it.

Ask yourself, would be a crime to shoplift a DVD movie from a rich company like WallMart? Or from a small DVD rental store? It is a crime no matter the size of the store, no matter if the film company made 1 million copies of the DVD or 20 billions.

It is a crime if the DVD sells for $ 19.95 or just $ 7.99. Unit price of the item is not the issue, how much more the company can make out of the movie is not the issue. You must pay to the owner the merchandise product you want to consume/use/view.

Betty asks…

Is it right to download movies instead of paying for the DVD or watching it at the cinema?

I’m not talking about a legal answer but a moral answer. It is getting really expensive to see movies at the cinema and you have to wait a few months before the movies are out on DVD and even then they can be too expensive. So is it right to watch movies online because you can’t afford to watch it at the cinema and don’t want to have to wait for months or even years for the price of the DVD to go down to a more affordable amount?

Nagesh answers:

The answer of morality depends on you…
Technically, downloading isn’t really legal in some countries,i could be wrong. However, it isn’t something that people want encouraged..downloading torrents/films is considered as bad business to companies, agencies etc. Piracy, is theft. They spend a great deal of money delivering a product they want people to enjoy…with that comes the price of purchasing a ticket, which,i agree, can cost a bit much these days.
The question is,do you give a damn?

I don’t 😉

Cheers
