Your Questions About Direct Buy

Ruth asks…

Direct Buy?

Is anyone a member of Direct Buy shopping warehouse? I’ve seen their infomercials/commercials and their website is vague. Do any members have information on what the membership few is? Is it easy to shop there? Was it worth it to you? Thanks in advance

Nagesh answers:

It’s interesting that all the people who have responded here aren’t members of Direct Buy. I am a member, so I probably have more authority to speak on the subject than the others who have.

If you want to find negativity on the internet about Wal-Mart or McDonald’s, it’s easy to do. If you want to find something negative about Direct Buy, that’s easy to do too. Some people here have suggested reading such things. But if you want to make an educated decision for yourself, then the best way to know you made the right decision for yourself is to go to one of the meetings and learn about it.

The problem that a few people have with Direct Buy is that people want everything for nothing. Yes, you pay a membership to be a part of the club, that’s why it’s a “membership club.” You pay to be a part of the club, and then you buy stuff directly from the manufacturers who make it. That’s cost, not wholesale.

To answer your questions, I’ve been a member for about 2 years. Yes, it is very easy to shop at my local club, it’s sort of one stop shopping. I’ve bought tires for my car and pillows for the bed in the same visit.

It has been worth it to me. I haven’t recouped my membership dues yet with the savings I’ve seen, but I know that I will. That’s kind of the point of it, you don’t get the money back the next week….but it does come back to you. After it does, then you’re buying like the stores get to everyday.

I realize it’s not for everyone, but I’m thankful for it. I’m saving money every time I make a purchase. My local club has about 4000 members. I know they have about a million members nationwide.

Maybe all those people know something that the nay-sayers don’t. Maybe that’s because they actually tried it.

Linda asks…

direct buy?

what do you think about direct buy? Has anyone used it please tell me what you think

Nagesh answers:

My husband and I had an appt this weekend to go to the showroom. I was irritated by the way the company would not tell me the deal on the phone, so I started asking questions from people online. I found that the membership fee is $4500 and an additional $200/year. If you do not sign up at the time of your appt, you can’t for another 7 years. You have to pay for shipping and apparently you don’t save as much money as they claim. About 3 people have told me that the shipping takes 6 weeks or more and the staff are anything but friendly. We are NOT going to DirectBuy for our appt. Everybody on here has told me to RUN…. I am listening!!!

How much does it cost for a Direct Buy membership in Canada? What are members’ experinces purchasing through Direct Buy?

Nagesh answers:

We are customers in the states. I don’t know the cost to join there/. Our experience has been if we shop around a little bit we can get better deals from sears, Jc penny’s, Kohl’s or any other place to get appliances and furniture. Example. We bought a sided by side Refrigerator freezer for 650.00 and we could of gotten the same one at Sears for 529.00

David asks…

Direct Buy, good bad or not worth the effort on a large house remodel.?

We have just purchased an 11 year old house and will be doing the following upgrades: install hardwood floors, complete repaint of the house, new capet, 5 major new apliances, new deck, removing walls and upgrade of stairs, new windows and have heard and have had dealings with Direct Buy. If you have dealt with Direct Buy how was your experience and would you recommend Direct Buy. We will not be doing the upgrade work ourselves it will be done by contractors.

Nagesh answers:

I haven’t dealt with them, but I did a little research about them when i was looking to redo my house…including the purchase of all new appliances.

I wouldn’t touch them with a ten foot pole. When it comes time to buy your appliances do what I did. I got online (ajmadison.com), picked out what I wanted. Printed out my shopping cart and went to Lowes.

Even though Lowes doesn’t officially match the online prices…they did. I ended up paying the same at Lowes as I would have online AND I had my refrigerator delivered the next day – the rest were special order so they took longer.

Ken asks…

How does Direct Buy work and is the membership worth it?

I’m remodeling my home does Direct Buy benefit me in any way? If so how? Are their prices actually cheaper? Or are they just rip-offs?

Nagesh answers:

I went there last summer to check them out….I was building a house and was getting almost everything new…ok..it was $5000.00 to join..I went there knowing the price of half a dozen items I could purchase locally. None of their prices were cheaper than what I could buy in a local store not even on sale. They tell you the items will retail for a huge price then tell you what you can get them for and people think they are getting a great deal, where in reality they are not. Shop locally and you can get better deals, save the $5000 for a trip or something. Don’t waste your time..rip off..oh, and here they do not deliver, and do not install. Rip Off..Run away from them.
