Your Questions About Direct Tv Customer Service

Nancy asks…

Direct tv or att uverse?

i have direct tv right now and my dad wants to switch to att uverse. which one is better? why?

Nagesh answers:

First, DirecTv only provides TV service. Except for a low speed direct-to-satellite Internet option available to some customers, they do not directly provide Internet service, nor telephone service. (If you get Internet and phone from them, they’ve contracted with third parties, which you can do yourself.)

With U-Verse you can have an integral package of TV, Internet, and digital phone, which might be what your dad is considering.

As to which is better for TV, you’ll get arguments both ways. But all things considered, it was my judgment that U-Verse was the better value for services and cost, so that’s the way I went. I have two close friends who made the switch from DirecTv to U-Verse, and they both say that they’re paying a little less for equivalent services. All three of us would make the same switch again.

Maria asks…

how many days free trial for direct tv for CA. ?

We are not satisfied with direct TV package and want to cancel it. We called customer service and they said that for CA state, the cancellation only able to proceed within 24 hours. Please help.

Nagesh answers:

Call back and ask to speak with a supervisor. Direct TV representatives are paid to try and keep customers. I had Direct TV and I moved from one house to another. When I reached the new house I found that there were issues with my reception (they turned out not to be the fault of Direct TV but that’s bye the bye) I called them worried that breaking my contract would cost me the $200+ but was told that when you set up new service or when you move your service you are given one month as a trial period in which to opt out of the service. This was in Southern California.

Mandy asks…

Anime channel on Direct tv?

I now adult swim has some anime on saturdays and nickalodeon has a few and so does disney channel but is there a channel that only has anime or any other channels I didnt mention that show anime?
im not retarded lol
nick:dragon ball z
disney:narato

Nagesh answers:

DirecTV does not have the linear FUNimation Channel (the only 24/7 anime channel in the US) yet.

If you want the FUNimation Channel for your home with DirecTV…

All you need to do is request it.

Step 1. Call a Direct TV Operator
Step 2. Ask for Customer Service Rep
Politely…please
Step 3. Explain to them that FUNimation Channel is a 24 hour anime channel
Step 4. Let them know you would keep with them or switch providers to receive the channel.

Also….

Send note in your next Direct TV bill

Fill out customer service forms on Direct TV’s websites

Go to Direct TV’s office and ask in person!
Better yet…bring them baked goods every week until they add the channel.

That’s the best way to let the cable/dish companies know you want the channel. They file these requests and send them to the corporate offices for review.

Ken asks…

Which is better. Direct TV or Dish Network?

Nagesh answers:

Most of the people prefer Direct TV than dish network.

1)Better picture quality: You will notice that a dss receiver gives you a brighter picture than Dish network. Check it out for yourself. Go to the source or best buy and check the picture quality and you will noticed.

2)Great customer service: Direct TV have won so many awards on Customer service. They know what you want and they give it to you.

So, I hope this helps you.

Linda asks…

Direct TV cancellation?

I just ordered Direct TV and not what it seemed, and we just had it installed yesterday 6/17. I was reading up to see if they had a trial period, I’m not at home right now, I don’t have my contract with me to read it, but I was reading forums to see if they even have one and doesn’t seem they do. So I was reading up on the Illinois state laws and it states:
Contract Terms, Bills, Payments, and Termination
Cable and Video television providers must:
• Limit contracts for cable and video service to no more than one year.
• Allow customers 60 days from the date service is started to cancel service
without penalty.****************************************************************************************
• Provide bills that are clear, accurate, and understandable.
• Give customers at least 28 days from the date of a bill to pay the charges.
Payment is considered to be made on the date the customer mails the check.
• Give 21 days notice before terminating any service following failure to receive
payment within the 28-day grace period.
• Stop charging a customer for service within one business day after the customer
requests to immediately shut off service.
• Limit early termination fees to the amount the customer saved under the special
rate, one-year contract (as compared to the regular rate for service in the absence
of the one-year contract).
• Restore at no charge any television service that was terminated without good
cause.

Says they give customers 60 to pretty much try it out without penalty if they wanted to cancel. So then why does Direct TV give those people a hard time to cancel? Do they even qualify in the law? It says Cable and Video Television providers, are they exempt from it?

Thanks for any help!
BTW, here’s that website…

That doesn’t answer my question. I was not home while the service was being installed therefore I couldn’t have an opinon before the guy left, my dad was there for me and he signed the contract. It’s all in my name. Just want to know if Satallite service is included under the illinois law where you have 60 to cancel without penalty. I don’t need to explain my whole situation.

Nagesh answers:

Here is a short as possible answer. With out lecturing you about lack of reasearch and agreeing to 24mo of service and hardware you did not fully understand not to mention not even being home for the installation of said 2yr relationship i hope you are willing to accept some responsibility for your monetary loss. Although the state laws you mentioned may be in place I promise Directv has a countered response for each one for example “Payment is considered to be made on the date the customer mails the check.” you made ur first ” payment” when you gave up your c.c. Number. Sorry im triing to be short….basically you could hire a lawyer or file a small claims complaint to get your termination fees repaid..and trust me they will get it , dont cancel your c.c or dispute it with your c.c co. Or it will go straight to collections and their garnishment team is fast and strong . YOU WILL spend more money triing to fight this then what the actual terminations fees are THEY WILL ding your credit score. YOU gave them permission to when you gave them your c.c. Number. So stop wasting time reading up on state law and start reading the entire contract, privacy release, content ownership and so on and so on. Your sixty day law doesnt apply unless they breach when your dad signed for you that is prove that everything is as promised. The next move will be YOU breaching and you WILL lose. All T.V. Providers fall short of being able to help protect you from yourself.
