How do I activate DirectX 10 on WindowsXP?
I got company of heroes the game to play and everytime i try to play it tells me that i need DirectX installed and i just downloaded it and finished and it said it was installed but then i tried again and nothing happened can anyone help?
Nagesh answers:
It was not designed to be native for XP, there are however a few bootleg versions customised to work on XP but can be very unstable and not worth it, stick with DirectX 9 and upgrade your OS when you feel the need to.

what is the software used to make 3d games using directX or OpenGL?
I know little about 3D game programming. I need to make a simple game using DirectX or OpenGL. Not necessarily 3D but using one one of the above. What software can be used to do that? Since OpenGL is for free, It is much better if it is Opensource. Thank you
Nagesh answers:
Making a videogame is not as easy as sit down and write a text processor or a file parser (even though, those are not very easy to do 🙂
A videogame needs planning and projection before hand. It needs art to look nice and, most of all, needs creativity and programming skills.
I’ve been using DirectX and I like it better than OpenGL. The only draw back is that DirectX only works over Windows OS.
The Software Development Kit for C++ is available for free at
http://www.microsoft.com
Look for it at the Download center. Your code can be opensource even though the technology you use isn’t.

Does using directx 11 require a more powerful pc for gaming?
I currently play games in xp service pack 3 32bit edition. But if i upgrade to windows 7 and play directx 11 compatible games like dirt 2 and crysis 2 will there be any performance downgrade from my pc? And will i have to upgrade my pc in order to play those games well? I currently have the gt 440 which is directx 11 compatible.
Nagesh answers:
More powerful… In simplest form the answer is no.
But if you’re still running windows xp, you will need to upgrade to windows 7.
The most basic computers with windows 7 can use directX 11
As for gaming, you will want to make sure your computer components meet the game requirements.
Such as a 1g video card, or 4g ram, and so on.

How do I change back to Directx 9?
I have windows vista and directx 10, i have had troubles with soem games i play because of it. i want to know how i can change back to directx 9.
Nagesh answers:
You can’t. Windows Vista runs DirectX 10. If you are having DirectX problems, try running your games in Compatibility Mode.
Go to the Games explorer, right click on the game you want. Then Customize. There is an option in there to run the game in compatibility mode. Select Windows XP. Try running the game again.
If it still won’t run correctly, the game may just not be compatible with Windows Vista.
