Your Questions About Firefox

Sandy asks…

How do I get my old version of firefox back?

I just downloaded firefox 3.0 and its horrible, its super slow and doesn’t load anything. I can’t remember what I had before, but i checked the website and I can’t find anything on there that will allow me to get my old version back.

Nagesh answers:

Firefox 3 is better: you should give it a chance.

But if you still don’t like it after a couple of days, you can download version 2.0.0.14 from Softonic here: http://firefox-2.en.softonic.com/

How can I modify Firefox to stop displaying security warnings?

Most webpages are like criminals to Firefox. For example, it blocks Google and some other websites and I have to click “I Understand the Risks” and “Confirm security exception” whenever I visit these pages. It’s annoying and wastes my time. It also says someone might be trying to impersonate the site. Can anybody help?

Nagesh answers:

Although you may think you are requesting a legit site, there are potential conditions existing in your operating system, arising from malicious garbage you’ve picked up, that guide you to malicious sites that look exactly like the real McCoy.**

First, try “MalwareBytes” to start cleaning up your system:
http://www.malwarebytes.org/
(free version has no “real-time” shield)

Afterwards, you need to modify Firefox so it has less chances of bringing back the wrong kinds of assets.

**The first place Windows ‘looks’ for a website address is the on-board ‘hostsfile’.
Many malicious payloads modify this so that websites controlled by the bad guys gets your browser to go there rather than the genuine site.
Get this: “HOSTS file” (from mvps.org) which blocks evil webpage assets from re-directs which install malware or trashware. (Vista/Win7 require special instructions; on-page link)

Chris asks…

How do I reduce the CPU usage of Firefox?

I use Firefox and I love it. Until now, I have had no problem with it, however recently I get messages saying that it has a very high CPU usage and my browser will freeze at random times, sometimes even when I only have one tab open. Does anyone know if there is an easy way to fix this?

Nagesh answers:

There is a little add-on call Memory Fox, which when installed will help reduce the amount of CPU usage the browser uses. You can download the latest version, which is version 7.4, at the link below.

Also, tweaking your Firefox browser will help reduce the amount of CPU usage the browser uses.

First, check your add-ons. Go to Tools, then add-ons and in the “Extension” tab uninstall or disable any add-on that you don’t use. This includes Java Quick Starter and Microsoft .NET Framework Assistance.

Second, while in add-ons, go to the “Plugins” tab and disable any plugins that cause your browser to slow down. In particular these tree.

-Adobe Acrobat, which bring up PDF files from websites onto your browser. Turning it off will prevent this and your PDF files will open externally.

-get Plus for Adobe. This is not needed.

-Java Platform

-Java Deployment Toolkit (any version)

-MetaStream

-Microsoft DRM

-QuickTime Plugin, which allows you to view QT video on websites

-Realtime HTML 5 Video Shim Plugin

-Shockwave for Director

-Window Media Player Plug-in Dynamic Link Library

and finally, Window Presentation Foundation.

All of the above is not needed.

Third, you can tweak Firefox to run faster on your computer. The link below is video on how to do it.

Don’t forget to restart Firefox in order for the changes to take effect.

Fourth, if you download files into your computer, go to Tool then Download and delete to files from the download list.

If you don’t want to have any download file in the status bar in the future, go to Tools, then Option. Click on the “Privacy” icon and unchecked the box that says “Remember Download History.”

Finally, always, always clean out your recent history, that way Firefox can work faster. Try doing every two weeks or every month, it’s up to you. If you don’t how to clean out your browsing history, the video link below will show you how.

If your browser is leaking memory, the link below will be very helpful with the problem.

This measure works well with all versions.

I hope this information is very helpful.
