Your Questions About Direct Tv Channel Guide

Laura asks…

Where can I find Australian football on American television?

When I lived in Australia I became addicted to Australian Football (footy) and the AFL. Since moving back to the states I have not been able to find footy anywhere on any sports channel. Does ESPN or the like ever show Australian football played by Australians? I know there are a few American Australian Football teams but I miss Australian football played by Australian teams (Go Cats). Can anyone help me with this?

Thanks.

Here is the True Hollywood Story, just like on the E! Network on cable television here in the USA.

Footy last appeared on regular cable television here in the USA until 2005 when Fox Sports World became Fox Soccer World.
Now the footy is supposed, again I say supposed to be on a Direct TV satellite channel only called Setanta North America. I have relatives and several friends with Direct TV, even asked a Direct TV salesman–they have never heard of this channel. I have asked the chairman of the Australian Football Association of North America (AFANA) about this. Setanta provides guides, but nobody has ever seen this channel except in pubs, bars–none where I live.
So, basically here in the USA we are s*hit out of luck to watch the footy. I listen to radio calls via the AFL website,
www.afl.com.au
There is no video on the AFL site unless you live in Oz.
Andrew Demetriou, AFL CEO and noted idiot, was so proud of himself last year that a television contract was signed so the USA could see footy. Andrew the Rocket Scientist and his band of idiots in the AFL didn’t research that 99.9 percent of America can’t see the footy.
Footy began on television in the USA on ESPN in 1981 until 1987. Then no coverage until 1991 when Prime Network picked it up. Prime Network went out of business in 1997, and footy was on ESPN2 for a year. Then Fox Sports World picked it up in 1998 until 2005. That is the history of VFL-AFL footy on television in the USA.
Carn those Catters, we finally won it. I am the only member of Geelong in North America, been a member since 1996 and I have been to Oz five times to see the matches.
I cried during the fourth quarter on the radio call on my computer and have cried at the presentation of the cup, all three times I have watched the DVD.
This was a novel, but I hope it answered your questions. Here in America, we are screwed.

What would TiVo be like without the service that you have to pay for?

I want to record shows, but I don’t want to pay for their service. I don;t really know anything about what the TiVo service does. If I know what time and what channel I want to record, can I get a TiVo without paying for the service?

Nagesh answers:

The TiVo service is designed to be useless if you don’t subscribe.

At least once a week your TiVo calls the TiVo company offices to update the programming guide and that is what you use to determine what programs you record.

The VHS players record a show based on the time and channel you input into the machine. If the show runs long or short then you miss part of it. You can program your recorder to record the same show at the same time every week, but you are limited to the amount of space you have on your tape.

The only way to program your TiVo is with the TV schedule, you can’t just have it start recording channel 5 at 8:00 pm. It could have been designed to do it that way, but its design is such that it CANNOT do that. So they have you locked.

When TiVo was first released the company offered a one-time one fee subscription package, as well as the standard monthly fee service contract. When I got my TiVo from Direct TV I was told that I could not get the one time fee service contract, but I did get a discount on the monthly fee. Last year I think the one time fee service contract was still available, but I am not sure if it is anymore. It turns out that TiVo will make more money on the service contract than on selling the machine. My sister has a TiVo with a one-time one fee service contract and she and her husband are doing everything they can to keep that machine running, because if it dies they may never be able to get that deal again.

In short you are stuck with the monthly service fee if you want to keep using the TiVo, and there is no other way to use it without that service contract.

How do you set season passes with the new Direc TV DVR?

i have an old tivo Direct TV reciever, i recently got a new Direc TV DVR and am going to set some of my season passes there. How do I set a season pass on the new DVR? The instruction manual isnt super friendly.

Nagesh answers:

Well to start off calling DirecTV tech support would be a quicker way to get the answer but I would be more then happy to give you the instructions. First of all on the DTV DVR it is no longer called season pass because tivo owns the copyright to that name it is called series link.
There are 2 ways to do this and I’ll give you both ways.

This is the easier way but with less options.
1. Press your guide button.
2. Press the select button(orange button in middle of remote) on all channels.
3. Find and highlight the program you want to setup as a series link(the program should be highlighted in yellow in the guide).
4. On your DirecTV remote there should be a button that has the letter R in an orange circle(this is your record button, it will be much smaller then the select button) you will need to press the record button twice you will see 3 circles show up on the screen on the selected program. If you press it only once you will see one circle and the program will not record as a series. If you press the record button a 3rd time it will cancel the series and you will have no circles at all.

This is the more difficult way but gives you more options.
1. Press your guide button.
2. Press the select button(orange button in middle of remote) on all channels.
3. Find and highlight the program you want to setup as a series link(the program should be highlighted in yellow in the guide).
4. Press the info button on your remote.
5. In the next menu on the left side you should see where it says “Record Series” highlight that options and press select.
6. Once there you will see options that you may want to customize. You can tell it if you want first runs only repeats or both. Also can tell it how long to keep the records and should they start and stop on time. Once you’ve got he settings the way you want them arrow over to where it says “Record Series” it will give you a confirmation and info about it’s place in the prioritizer.

I hope that answers your questions about setting up the series link 🙂

Lizzie asks…

Obama has his own channel on the Dish Network 24/7 where’s McCain channel are they in the tank for Obama?

Do you have some info about it?Is the Dish Network in the tank for Obama?Should I close my Account with them.I do not want to be a part of killing babies with abortion.Does Obama have a channel on Direct TV or your cable company 24/7?

Nagesh answers:

Killing babies with abortion. Wow.

Obama purchased advertising time on Dish Network’s channel guide, channel 73. It’s not an endorsement, no one’s “in the tank” for anyone, and McCain could’ve bought that time too, except of course he has nothing to say.
