Your Questions About Direct Tv Customer Service

Ruth asks…

How do i get my local channels on direct tv?

I live in Denison, texas which is 70 miles north of Dallas, texas.I have direct tv and was wanting to know how i get my local channels whick are channel 12 kxii and channel 10 kten on my direct tv. I would even settle for dallas channels so i can get ABC Network?

Nagesh answers:

I think you are charged extra for the local channels, although I’m looking at my bill now,and I don’t see a charge for local channels, which I have.Call customer service and ask them about it.If you put up an antennae you could get your local channels, and you don’t need a splitter, either.I live in a rural area in W.TN.,and my local stations aren’t on DirecTV.I have to watch the nearest big city stations, which happens to be Memphis.

Daniel asks…

How does one get a phone number for the corporate offices for Direct TV?

We are having a problem with making contact with somebody to actually address the problem of broken promises from Direct TV. Help!

Nagesh answers:

You don’t. At least as far as I know. I’m a former contractor under them and I can tell you that Directv is set up so that you cannot talk to anyone important. My suggestion to you is to document everything. If they tell you something get a name, location and employee number. Demand managers, and above all else make sure they know how unhappy you are with your service. If your problem is related to your installation it may be the fault of a contractor in which case Directv will tell you to contact said contractor and won’t do anything else unless you pay for a service call. If they actualy damaged your home or property then the issue is called an Office Of The President or OOP for short. Directv customer service will not actualy help you as they don’t know how. If Inknew more about your problem I could give you a better idea of who to talk to. I’m sorry if this was not helpful but if anything always get their names, etc. Take them to task for making promises to you.

Laura asks…

Can I avoid Direct TV HD upgrade by having my wife signup?

I now have an HD TV and want to add Direct TV HD service. Even though I have been a Direct TV subscriber for over 3 years, they want to charge me $99 for the HD receiver and installation, plus sign a 2 year contract. My question is this. . . Is it possible to cancel my service and then have my wife sign up for new service so that we can get the new subscriber deal? The new subscriber deal includes free HD DVR receiver, installation, plus 4 months premium channels.

Nagesh answers:

Phone Direct TV and tell the rep you are going to disconnect service. When they ask you why, tell them you have seen better deals available. Then immediately tell them that if they want to retain you as a customer, they need to pass you from Customer Service to the Customer Retention department. They might offer you the new subscriber deal to retain you as a customer.

Mary asks…

i’m thinking about switching from comcast tv to direct tv, what are the problems with direct tv?

i know that direct tv is dish tv instead of cable tv and i wanted to know if there were any/many problems with it. Could you please tell me if there are any?

Nagesh answers:

I did just that about two years ago. I got tired of Comcast’s rising prices and absolutely HORRIBLE customer service. The two downsides to DirectTV versus Comcast are that the satellite will go out if there is bad weather (high winds & severe thunderstorms) and there is no On Demand like there is with Comcast. The positives of DirectTV are that I have never had any problems with my dish or with customer service when I had a question and it is cheaper that Comcast. I was paying $119 a month for two premium channels and basic cable with Comcast. I’m paying $91 a month for the same service wit Direct TV. Make sure you read the fine print if/when you sign up for Direct TV so that you know what your monthly fee will be once the “introductory rate” expires. I had a little trouble when mine first expired but customer service fixed it right away.

Joseph asks…

How do I watch cable channels online for pay?

I noticed comcast and direct tv dont offer their services for online viewing so is there any company out there that lets you watch all the cable channels online?

Nagesh answers:

No.

I am not saying it is illegal directly. It would be legal if the cable channels allowed it, and I think many cable channels would like to be online. The problem is that the cable channels rely on the cable providers, and the cable providers are basically making the channels be sold and packaged similar to how they sell channels.

There is also the issue of internet bandwidth, especially the “last mile”, which is isn’t as huge as needed, plus many internet providers are also cable providers, and are known to make it hard for their customers to use Internet as a means to watch TV they would otherwise subscribe to.
