Your Questions About Direct Tv Customer Service

Joseph asks…

What cable tv provider do you have?

We are currently living without cable tv because we dropped our old provider, direct tv. We loved the product, but the customer service was terrible and had hidden prices. We are now looking for a new service. What provider do you have, what do you think of it and what is the monthly price? Thanks!

Nagesh answers:

There is no perfect provider.

Your options are:
Dish Network
Your local cable provider (rare to have more than one)
and if available in your neighborhood ATT Uverse or Verizon Fios.

All of them have introductory packages, so pay attention to the cost AFTER 3 or 6 months.

Charles asks…

What are the similarities and differences of Direct TV HD DVR compared to Tivo HD?

After moving into a new apartment complex, we are being forced to leave our current cable company and go with one the complex has a contract with – they use Dish DVR and we are not happy with it. Being Tivo customers for over 4 years, we are looking for something similar to Tivo. Direct TV seems to be the closest, but before we commit, we wanted to get some feedback.

Nagesh answers:

The only advantages that a Tivo DVR offers over any other DVR is that it is networkable and its user interface and the user interface/ability to suggest similar shows to what you have been recording.

While I have never had Dish Network, I thus can not comment on their service.

However, Directv is constantly improving and enriching their software to add capability (and for much less cost than Tivo). I’m a beta tester on their cutting edge program. Here are a few of the new capabilities regular users should start seeing soon.

Donald asks…

How to record from my DVR to my DVD Recorder?

I have Direct TV HD-DVR and a Magnovox ZV457MG9 DVD/VCR recorder, I was told by Direct TV that it is possible to record but they do not cover that with their customer service. All I am trying to do is take a show that I already have recorded on my DVR and put it on a dvd. If someone could provide me with the step by step instructions on what I need to do it and how to do it. Thank you

Nagesh answers:

You plug A/V from the DVR to the DVD recorder. You follow the instructions with the DVD recorder to select that input and record. From the DirecTV DVR, you play the item which you wish to copy.

Ruth asks…

How can you get out of a direct tv contract without having to pay?

I am moving and even though i can take it with me I don’t need direct tv anymore so i would like to be let out of the contract. Any suggestions?

Nagesh answers:

Call their customer service line and explain that the place you are moving to furnishes cable for free and you can’t see the reason to pay for directv when you are getting free cable.

They may work with you.

Good luck

Carol asks…

How many HD channels will Direct TV really have at the end of this year?

I am curious about Direct TV promises for the HD channels(100). Does any one know for sure how many channels they really gonna have? is it better than Dishnetwork which has 34 HD channels + local HD? or they just add up all the PPVs and locals channels all over US to make that many.

Nagesh answers:

The bird is in the air and you should see the 100 HD channels by the end of September. A friend of mine is one of the largest DTV dealers in the SE and should know. I also got the exact same answer from DTV customer service when I called recently to change programming. I know the Fox Sports channels ahve been messing with it as The Braves were on FSS the other night in HD for the first time, plus I see test HD signals coming through some channels as well.

DIRECTV also announced today that it currently has signed agreements, or agreements in principle, with more than 70 major networks including:

* A&E
* Bravo
* Cartoon Network
* CNN
* Food Network
* FX
* HGTV
* MTV
* National Geographic NFL Network
* SciFi Channel
* Speed
* TBS
* The History Channel
* The Weather Channel
* USA Network
