Direct TV vs Cable, Direct TV service, hidden fees and penalties?

I’m looking to Direct TV for my parents who are looking to save money (they have cablevision right now).
They have a special now for $34.99 a month for 12 months.
Can anyone tell me about their service compared to cable, their customer service and their practices? Do they have hidden charges, fees or penalties?
Do you know what the $34.99 fee go up to after the first 12 months?

I have had DirecTV for 5 years and I hate them. I had to sign a 2 year contact. The first 4 years were ok, if you don’t mind your tv messing up everytime you get a heavy rain.

The plan I have is the 2nd cheapest and it just went up to $64.18/month.

Last year I hooked up the tv in my basement. A few months later, I then called to cancel and switch to something cheaper. They told me that I was under another contract because I got another tv hooked up. I did not know anything about another 2 year contract and was so upset. No one I spoke to would help me. As soon as this contract is up, I’m switching.

how come im having problems ordering ppv from direct tv now?

before i was able to order ppv without having a telephone line connected to my receiver. Recently it has stopped working and its asking me to call ext 736 …why is it such a pain in the butt to get direct tv customer service on the phone. even when i dial 0 nothing happens and it automatically hangs up on you. 😛
i dialed ext 736 and nothing happens..im confused

I believe you have to have an internet or telephone connection to the back of the receiver in order to use the remote to order PPV. If you could order before without a telephone line, I would assume that you have some how lost your internet connection with the receiver.

Call Directory Assistane and ask for the telephone number, then call Direct-TV and ask how you apply for a Customer Service Job.

I bought a Direct TV DVR from Ebay. Direct TV is charging me a lease fee and state that they own it. How come?

I spoke with a very rude woman in Direct TV customer service and she told me that it didn’t matter where I got it from and how much I paid; it was theirs. If I terminate my Direct TV contract, I have to send the box back. I understand that I have to pay a service fee to use it with Direct TV and to keep the software updated but how can they claim that the box is theirs if I bought it independently?

YOU did NOT read the fine print

take advantage of the drop out feature and return it and get your money back!!!
You paid for a box to use, in other words you rented it THE service is what you pay for
Just like TIVO, DSL, Cable TV, Phone equipment
