Laura asks…
Where can I get firmware updates?
I have a RCA RTB1023G Blu-ray Home Theater System. It will not let me play movies. It keeps telling me I need an update but when I connect it to the internet, it tells me there are no updates what to do? Where can I get these updates?
Nagesh answers:
Go to RCA’s website, but NOT by connecting through the Blu-ray Home Theater System. Log on to web on your desktop or laptop. Then go to RCA’s website, check to see do they have new firmware for your model. IF they do follow the directions on how to download it and copy to a blank CD-R or CD-RW, and upload it to your home theater system.
That how it done for little older Blu-ray player firmware updates, when it still can not connect to the web.
Don’t forget to check on your system’s default firmware that came along when you got it. So that you know is it the same as what is online for update. IF it is the same, then RCA don’t have new firmware for update. Then you might want to call their costumer service and talk to them about the problem and how to resolve it.

I have been thinking of getting a console but cant decide. I want the Xbox but i just don’t want to pay $300 for it and then after a month it gets the red ring. The PS3 is ok is just that i don’t like the slim edition but $700 to get the old 80GB is too much!!! please help me decide on what is better… Oh and by the way i do play most of the time on any console i have…
Nagesh answers:
As of right now PS3 is a quieter, more reliable system, that cost more at first, but is lacking some of the great 360 only games and online user community. But due to it reliability and complexity will last longer and save you money in the long haul.

Chris asks…
is it normal if a 563mb avi file becomes 5.83GB when converted to mpeg?
didnt know how these works and i converted this avi video file and realised it’s size is now 5.83GB
is tht how it’s suppose to work?
Nagesh answers:
No its not normal. That is because your mpeg convertor is probably set for ripping videos from blu ray sources.
Let me put it in layman’s terms, what you are doing, is just rewriting out a story from its summary [the avi file is compressed, its not the original source], when you have lost all copies of the original full length one and forgotten the small details in it.
You may write a novel with lots of pages, but when you do it from the summary, you still do not have the fine details of your original.
The mpeg decoders are way better at compression than avi decoders. Hence you should actually get the same file size or better yet a smaller one. Tweak with your video convertor settings and set the video bitrate at an appropriate level. To give you a better idea about usual bitrates of popular media:
– blu ray disk: 30,000 kbps
– DVD: around 8,500 kbps.
– HD movies downloaded from itunes, netflix or any popular online store, or HD Videos recorded on your smartphone: approx 4,000 kbps
– SD movies from youtube or hulu or such, or recorded from your old nokia phone or such: average 1,000 kbps.
Set your bitrate accordingly. Just keep in mind that the latter two are compressed versions of the first two. When you rip the blu ray or dvd, keep the bitrate at the rates above, because below this you can notice color crushing and blocky graphics when viewed, or a noticeable loss of detail.

When will the following movies come out on DVD?
Desperate Journey: The Allison Wilcox Story
and
Terror on Highway 91
If so where can I buy them?
Nagesh answers:
Well, Desperate Journey and Terror on Highway 91 seem to have been out for quite some time….unless you are referring to more recent releases by the same name.

I can’t find them on Netflix or anywhere else I’ve looked online to buy, rent, or view for free. And don’t be duped into downloading software from some stupid site to watch it, it’s usually malware, or some other sort of crap that will clog up your PC.
Your best bet would be if you could find them on Youtube. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help, but made for TV movies that old can be tricky to find.
