It’s probably because of the audio codec that the Nokia uses to store the sound, or it’s simply an unsupported file type.

On a Nokia N82, the audio codec used in its MP4 files is AAC, which (for example) Windows Media Player 9 (XP SP2) doesn’t support.

You’ll need to determine whether or not Movie Maker actually supports the file type, and if so, whether or not you can download a new codec to support the file.

Obviously, you need to find out what the audio codec is that is used in the file.

Personally, I use a program called MediaInfo, which should give you the option of right-clicking on a file in Explorer, and clicking on MediaInfo – it will then give you lots of useful info about the file.

If the file is not supported or there is no codec available, you’ll need to either find some software to convert it to something Movie Maker supports, or use something other than Movie Maker for making movies.

Personally, I use Nero 9 for just about everything, though it was a step change from the Nero 6 that I had, and I had to unlearn the old user interface.

I’ve not used it for making movies as such, but I have TV programmes recorded on a DVD recorder, and used Nero to edit out the adverts.

You can probably still find Nero 9 online for about £30 – £40.

It includes Nero Recode, which will allow you to resize videos, and convert between formats.

The iPod plays any and all MP3s. Just download iTunes and drag your files into the iTunes library. Then simply hook up your iPod and sync it with your music library.

If you get a video iPod and want to play your MPG movies, iPod only plays MP4 video files, so you will have to convert them using third-party software.
