Richard asks…
How do people get caught doing illegal downloading?
Every so often we read about some 12 year old girl that gets fined millions of dollars for downloading a Justin Bieber song. How and why did they bust her?
I realize that I am exaggerating, but basically I want to know how somebody gets caught downloading? Who is doing the prosecution? How do they choose who they bust?
I thought that it had to do with how much bandwidth a particular user is using . . . That the ISP would see huge peaks and valleys and call law enforcement. Is that also possible?

How to catch an illegal downloader: the overwhelming majority of illegal downloading takes place over peer-to-peer (p2p) networks. You may have heard some words associated with p2p: bittorrent, limewire, the pirate bay, etc.
How p2p works is:
1) User downloads a file called a descriptor and opens it using a program called the client. Clients like limewire do this automatically when the user clicks on the name of a song.
2) The descriptor tells the computer, among other things, the address of a server called a tracker.
3) The tracker keeps track of the ip addresses of all the computers downloading the song.
4) The 12 year old’s computer connects to other users’ computers at the addresses provided by the tracker.
5) The 12 year old’s computer downloads the song FROM THE OTHER USERS’ computers in pieces.
6) While it is downloading the pieces of the song it doesn’t have, the 12 year old’s computer is also uploading the pieces of the song it already DOES have to people who don’t have those pieces yet. This is all managed automatically by the client. When it has all the pieces of a song, the client puts them together in the right order and VOILÀ! The 12 year old has a free copy of Shakira’s “Hips Don’t Lie.”
p2p works well for sharing illegal files because there is no centralized distribution system to target. If someone put a song up for download on a website, the government could force them to shut down the web server, or the MPAA or RIAA could sue. But nobody can shut down a constantly changing, distributed p2p network.
What the MPAA and RIAA do to catch p2p users is they download the descriptor and start downloading a copyrighted song or movie as if they were a user. Since p2p REQUIRES that the participating computers know each others ip addresses to work, the RIAA can trace the ip addresses of users to physical addresses, like houses. There is no good way to fake an ip address, and ip addresses are associated with physical locations on earth. One can use a proxy to hide one’s ip address, but proxies are either a) a pay service where the subscriber pays a monthly fee, or b) a free service that slows down downloads by an unacceptable amount or blocks p2p traffic altogether.
As for WHY they sue a young person with little money, it can only be to incite fear into the population to discourage downloading.

How do I put all songs from my ipod onto itunes. I just got a new computer?
ok so I just got a new computer and I want to put all my songs from my ipod onto itunes. I cannot use a flash drive or anything on my old computer. Is there any way i can just transfer them right frosm my ipod?

When I changed my computer, I used MediaWidget to move all library files from my iPod Touch onto my new computer http://www.gutensoft.com/Utilities/MediaWidget.htm
It can transfer all iPod content to the iTunes on your computer, including iPod music, movies, playlists, videos, podcasts, ratings, last played, and more. It’s such a powerful one that many friends around me have used it for a long time. Easy and safe.
Now all files are on your new computer and iTunes, you can sync your iPod with it smoothly without deleting any files.
Just free download it to try.
For more iPod support information you can also go to http://www.apple.com/support/

When you sync to a new computer your original data will be erased
for example, if you wanted to sync just movies then thats all you should select for syncing on the other computer, but it will replace your old movies

How do you download clips without sounds from animes for an AMV?
Actual clips, from any episode of any anime for a good AMV.
Or tell me how to take the sound away so I can put a song of my choice to the clips for an actual anime music video.
Please make it easy, if possible. 😀
I’m not that old, so can you put it in the simplest terms possible please? :3
Nagesh answers:
I just download clips then when I add it to Video Movie Studio I just put the clip on mute. You can do the same with Windows Movie Maker. You just drag the clip to the video slot then you go to your tool bar and click “Clip” and it should have Audio. You just go to that then another side bar should show up with a thing that says mute and other options. You just click mute and the clip will be muted.

I have vista home premium on my computer. What kind of things can you do with this OS?
I know some about a computer but all these programs that vista has seems confusing. Someone told me that I could download movies or songs and then put them on a disk using the computer. Is that correct or do I need something extra that connects to the computer?
Nagesh answers:
Windows Vista Home Premium is just an Operating System that makes your computer work, This version is much similar to the old Windows XP, basically the same structure from the start menu to the command prompt, cut, copy, delete, rename etc, also this version came along with some new interesting features like Windows Aero, Windows Media Center, Windows Defender, Windows Sidebar
Improved Graphics allow you to enable transparency in some areas of the windows and the start menu, you need to explore your Windows to discover more about this OS
In order to download movies or songs you need what is called a software, just google it and you’ll find thousands of choices, download and install the most appropriate, to copy songs you can use windows media player and burn them to a cd, This Program also comes with Windows Vista Home Premium, any questions email me, I own myself Windows Vista Home Premium.
