Avi to mpeg-4 converson?

Does anyone know a really good and really free program that i can download to convert my Avi movies to Mpeg-4 so that i can play them on my new media player i got for xmas… I have been looking for some but all of them cost money or have a virus on them… both of which i dont like so can someone plz direct me to a very good and very free program so that i dont have to do a lot of nasty searching.

video and picture editing..HELP?

i joined a certain club called DIRECTORS’ GUILD in our school a club which trained members with new skills and talents in video and picture editing, directing, layouting and movie making. they have LIVE coverage whenever we have our sports activity in school.(im in my last year in college anyway) i just have my basics in this kind of things. can you please help me. What are the software i need to be familiar to in this kind of field?.. they say i need to be familiar with ADOBE PHOTOSHOP.Where can i download this program for free?

How can I pass the time home alone at night in Manhattan?

I am a teenage girl who often finds myself home alone at night in Manhattan. What do I do? The obvious answer is go to a club or something. Any recommendations of clubs or hangout spots or whatever that I can go to at all hours of the night alone and have fun while not risking my health and well-being? By the way, please keep in mind that I’m underage so don’t recommend anywhere they won’t let me in. Also, I could use a recommendation of a free online game I can play without downloading anything except flash. I could use some recommendations of sites where I can see movies for free. Also, any movie recommendations or book recommendations? Also, I tend to eat when I’m bored. Do you know of any food I can eat when i’m bored that is healthy? like some sort of thing that is tasty and easy to munch on randomly…i don’t really like to eat fruit plain but if you know a simple healthy recipe that would be great… also if you know of any random activities that you like to do to pass the time please share. thanks!!

so, i just want to give you a taste of what i like so you can recommend good movies/books. you don’t have to read this part if you dont want to just saying lol

For movies, I despise chick flicks unless there’s a really hot guy in it. A good/deep plot/concepts is good but not necessary. Directing is super important. For a taste of what I like, I’m a fan of TV shows: Lost, Vampire Diaries, Nikita, Hawaii Five-O, CSI, and Bones. Movies: anything with time travel. anything with con artists. i like action (the sort of thing like salt or mr and mrs smith where people with guns run around killing each other) I like anything with con artists, i like vampires and end-of-the-world stuff. basically no animation and no chick flicks, and lots of hot guys, and it’s cool by me. with books, i just want it to be good writing (not good like classic, but good like suspense and good like bringing emotions very well) i like books that are so good they make me read them in a few hours. i like really engrossing books. romance is good too. also i hate books that are just about some girl who is just kind of freaking out about stupid social issues that dont matter. so sorry about that it was really long…any suggestions? how do i pass the time?
