My neighbor says he can download movies from some torrent site and that it’s legal?
I don’t believe it. I don’t think it’s possible to download any movie you want for free and not be doing so illegally. He says he can get any movie he wants. How is this possible if it’s not illegal?

Yes it IS illegal and can be punished by up to 250,000 dollars and 5 years jail time. Your friend is an idiot who knows no better. The same laws apply as the legal statement on a DVD movie rental.
EDIT: And anyone who tells you normal people steal is an even bigger idiot!!
EDIT: Yeah Zenboob, tell that to the lady who got fined a quarter million dollars for copying and selling media from limewire. It isn’t a matter of “Pansy” either. I chose a long time ago to make something of myself. I can afford to pay a lousy buck for a tune. For music, you’d have to visit the band’s website to see if they offer their songs for free. Otherwise, you have to pay for it.
LIMEWIRE is legal to own as a software, but to use it to SHARE or DOWNLOAD any songs is illegal. The only thing limewire is good for, is to watch/listen to your existing library, but even that, tis a piss poor program.

I think it’s funny that you asked if a certain site is LEGAL for DOWNLOADING movies..no site is legal to do that. If you want to watch it a LEGAL way, you will have to sign up for Netflix or run out to a local movie renting place. Or buy it..that’s an old movie so it would be cheap at WalMart.

I’ve been told that whilst it is illegal for someone to download movies off the internet, streaming them is perfectly legal for the person who is doing the streaming.
i.e. It’s only the streaming websites who are breaking the law! Not me or you!
Is this true? I’d feel much more at ease watching movies on megavideo and vidbux knowing that I couldn’t get into trouble for it!

It’s quasi-legal which means while it’s technically illegal to download or watch streaming video of copyrighted media no legal precedent has been set by a successful criminal court trial. But the crackdown is coming and all of you in the US and Canada, and Europe to a lesser extent, need to watch yourselves.

I suggest you to install utorrent, this one seems to be pretty nice.
BTW, to my mind downloading is not illegal, seeding is.
