Your Questions About Food Network

Joseph asks…

food network help!!!?

does any one know how u get on ace of cakes or food network challenge??? do u know how much it costs??

Nagesh answers:

To be in the audience or a contestant?

Ace of Cakes is more like reality show – they don’t have an audience or contestants – so I don’t know what you mean for that show. The non-employees you see are part of the celebrations they are making cakes for – and the people making those cakes are real employees of CCC.

But Food Network Challenge is a contest and you can check this page on Food Network to see what opening, if any, they have coming up: http://www.foodnetwork.com/shows/be-on-food-network/index.html However I’m pretty sure that FNC is all by invitation.

As for audience members – I see in the local papers when they are looking for people to show up for an audience. If you are in a good sized town – you might see if there are any websites or message boards that cover the local food scene – and start reading them as FN often contacts them in order to get audience or restaurant recommendations when they are filming in the area.

Ruth asks…

Who’s watching The Next Food Network Star?

Who do you want to win and why?
No, there are legit stars from that show. Guy Fieri is one, and Aarti Sequeira seems pretty popular.

Nagesh answers:

I am a huge food network fan. This season on Next Food Network Star is interesting so far. I would have to say that my favorite so far Orchid. She has a great personality and always has a huge smile on her face. I could picture myself watching her show because she seems very down-to-earth and likable. I would say that in order for her to win, she needs to make sure all her dishes are on target, since sometimes the judges have not been a huge fan of her food. Overall though, I think she has what it takes to win this competition. I’m looking forward to see what happens! Nancy asks…

Food Network?

Who is your favorite food network star?
I love Paula Deen and Rachel Ray!
Ooh I forgot about Alton Brown! Love him!! I like Giada okay. She kind of grew on me but I think she looks like a bobblehead doll. Tyler Florence is a local boy, of course I like him too! I watch too much Food Network!!

Nagesh answers:

You must be my husband.

I like Rachel Ray, but no one can be that happy!

I like Paula Deen because she raised her sons alone and pulled herself up by her bootstraps and when she found Michael… He was just the guy who supported her the most and he’s lovely… Plus she cried when he brought her boys (and daughter in law) to Europe so they could share the experience with her. You gotta love a guy who does that… And who sits and watches her kiss other men because they can roast a chicken – lol

My favorite? It changes from week to week…

I used to love Emeril, but he’s a bit overdone now.

I used to hate Bobby Flay but now he’s started to grow on me.

I used to think Giada was a prisspot, but she’s actually got reality firmly in hand when she cooks.

Hmm….

Okay, I’ve got it. My favorite is Mario Batali because he not only knows how to cook the food, he knows how to match regional cuisine with regional wine and it’s all so natural to him… The history of the dish… The geography of the region…. The instinctive creation of the dish… He’s the man 🙂

I love Food Network. I am 48 years old. When I was your age, there was only 1 cooking show on TV and it was only on once a week. I am so happy that there are dozens of TV chefs to watch and learn from. My favorites are Tyler Florence, The Neely’s, and Guy Fieti. Who are your favorites?
