Your Questions About Direct Tv

Susan asks…

How do I program my old direct tv remote to work for power and channels on my little Magnavox television?

I have an old Magnavox television and no remote to it but I do have an old RCA direct tv remote. Isn’t there a way to program it to my tv so that I can at least change the channels and turn the tv on and off?

Nagesh answers:

You can do it only if
a) Your old remote is a programmable universal remote
b) You can find a code to program it.

Universal remotes can be as low as $10 these days (or as high as $100+)

Steven asks…

How many Direct TV channels/shows can I record at once with two HD DVR receivers in the house?

I just placed an order for Direct TV service and originally went with the one HD DVR receiver and one HD receiver. I know with this setup I can record 2 shows at once.

If I replace the HD receiver with a second HD DVR receiver, can I record 4 shows at once if I needed to?

Nagesh answers:

Makes sense to me! Make sure the second has two tuners as well.

Nancy asks…

Is it possible to have cable modem service from one provider and Direct TV television service?

We’re looking at ways to cut costs on our television service. Direct TV has a package of similar TV channels to what we have now that would save us about $40 a month. The trouble is that we are more internet users than TV watchers. I do not know anyone with Direct TV so I do not know how they connect their equipment. Do they use the coax system in the house?

Nagesh answers:

Yes you can. You just need DirecTV to install their own coax, or at least make sure the coax from the cable provider to the cable modem is left alone.

Richard asks…

What can I use to connect my old tv to the direct tv box?

I have a really old tv that will only accept a coaxial cable and I have a direct tv box that has a hdmi cable. Is there something I can buy that will connect these two? I obviously do not know much about this. Any info or suggestions will help.

Nagesh answers:

Use RF out on the DirecTV box. That will give you the best picture the old TV can do.
Of the DirecTV box hasn’t an RF out, you need an RF modulator and composite A/V from the DirectTV box.

If the DirecTV box has only HDMI, you either need to switch to a box with those connections, or get a new TV that has HDMI.
