Robert asks…

How do I set up a direct tv box to the tv?

My mom just bought a direct tv box and we have a direct tv satellite. We don’t know how to set it up to the tv to receive channels and all that. Please explain how to do it step by step (I’m not the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to these things, haha.)

Nagesh answers:

DirecTV satellite dish has “LNB”s on an arm that is in front of the dish – which should be pointing toward whatever satellite.

A coax cable connects to the the LNBs and somehow gets in to you house nearby the satellite receiver (usually near the TV since the “set top box” is used to change channels). The cable plus into the SAT in coax plug.

The satellite box plugs into the TV. We don’t know which TV you are using and we don’t know which DirecTV receiver you are using. If HDTV, then a HDMI cable form the back of the satellite receiver box into the HDMI input… The TV “mode selection” needs to be the same mode that the HDMI TV input is associated with.

Have fun.

Mary asks…

Is direct tv really canceling all nick channels?

I saw an add on my computer saying direct tv was canceling all nick channels, is this really true?

Nagesh answers:

While the rest of the country takes cuts in pay viacom wants a 30% raise. Where does that money come from? We the subscribers. I like tv land and cmt but I would rather direct tv just tell em to take a hike.

Sounds like direct tv will make the deal one way or the other however.

Sharon asks…

Is there any way to split a Direct TV signal to get it onto multiple tv’s like cable?

I am about to get Direct TV and they charge you for the more tv‘s you want it on. Is there any way to just pay for it on 1 TV and then split the signal like you do with cable? Or buy another receiver cheaper or something?

Nagesh answers:

The only way to do that is the split it after the receiver, meaning the two tvs will project the same channel. You would need another receiver and access card for another tv in the room to watch separate programming. It generally is free installation up to 3 or 4 rooms o.0
I have DirecTV
