Your Questions About Direct Tv Customer Service

Lisa asks…

Why does my Direct tv say I have no channels available?

My Direct tv has been installed for about 3 days now. I have never been able to get all the channels because it either says “searching for signal” or “channel not available”. Now I can’t get any channels, including locals. Please help. There are 2 other receivers in our house and they work fine. I’ve tried resetting, unplugging, etc.

Nagesh answers:

Just call customer service they’re the professionals anyways.

Mandy asks…

need to be rid of my direct TV recievers-where can I sell them to?

in my old apartment I had direct TV and after I cancel the service they informed me I could keep the 3receivers and remotes. I thought they would take them back like they do for Comcast. anyway now I’m with comcast but still have the DTV stuff and don’t want to keep it but don’t want to give it away. paid good money for ’em. Is there anywhere or anyone knows how to sell them, not on line?

Nagesh answers:

Despite you paying good money for them back then, they are not worth very much now.

If they are pre RID receivers, DirecTV will not eve activate them on other than the last account they were on, so they have zero value for resale, except maybe for parts (even that isn’t much).

If they are customer owned RID, they can be transferred to another account holder, but are limited to SD, since HD and past couple generation receivers are leased.

What is the best way to get Internet without a home phone or cable?

I switched from Cox Cable with whom I also had internet with and now have Direct TV. Direct TV only offers Internet if you have a home phone, which I do not. What is the cheapest way to get internet without adding a home phone?

Nagesh answers:

For Internet, You basically have 4 main choices.

1. Cable Internet through your cable TV company. You can get the Internet without the TV packages, but you will be charged more than the promo prices you see on TV.

2. DSL through you telephone line (if it’s available in your area). Usually you have to have local service, but you can get service called “dry loop”. Just DSL by itself. Again, the DSL price will be higher than you see on TV. They want you to take a bundle of services, so “dry loop” is not advertised.

3. Dial-up (Slow! Yuck! ’nuff said)

4. Satellite Internet. Not as slow as Dial-up, but you don’t need to have a telephone or cable line coming into your house. Most of the people who get Satellite Internet live in remote places without good telephone or Cable TV services. (Or they are on house boats) Two things to keep in mind— you cannot use VoIP, like Vonage and Satellite may be a very expensive start up cost.

I am Familiar with DIRECTV- they parner with local phone companies like Verizon, AT&T to give customers Internet. They also sell Satellite Internet called Wild Blue.

The only other alternative is to use free Internet at Internet cafes and the public library. I hope I’ve helped.

Sandra asks…

How long is the delay for the korean channels on direct tv? mainly SBS and MBC?

was thinking about getting the korean package on direct tv to watch Music Bank and Inkigayo but if its like 2 weeks late then it isnt worth it.
as a follow up the the 1st answer, im am not refering as to the delay from set-up , or from the direct tv sat. , i am refering to the delay from korean broadcast to when direct tv broadcasts it.

Nagesh answers:

I do not know what satellite those channels are on or what satellite dish you have, but if you have a 5 LNB dish, then you can receive all the Directv satellites and so to get these channels would be nothing more than customer service adding them to the channels you receive… Which takes all of 5 minutes.

Steven asks…

Which is the better product: Verizon Fios or Direct TV?

We are considering changing from Verizon Fios to Direct TV because we absolutely hate dealing with Verizon customer service. Is the product as good? We like Fios we just hate dealing with Verizon. We have found the pricing to be comparable.

Nagesh answers:

FIOS. I just switched from Direct TV. I didn’t like Direct TV’s customer support and FIOS has better picture quality. Also, I don’t lose the picture anymore during thunder storms or snow.
