Your Questions About Direct Tv

Nancy asks…

How to make a direct tv transformer work with a 9v battery?

I was told that you can make direct tv work with a 9 v battery through the transformer

Nagesh answers:

You might get a TV to work from an inverter which converts 12 volts DC to 220vac .
Never heard of 9 volts being used though , 12 volts may be if set is designed to run on 12 volts DC , there a few of those around usually small screens though

Richard asks…

How do I set my TV to sleep using a direct tv remote?

The remote that came with the TV has a sleep button but the TV doesn’t recognize it. Does the Direct TV remote have a sleep function somewhere? Thanks.
The remote that I have came with the TV and I used to be able to use its sleep button, but now that I got Dirct TV, for some reason the TV doesn’t resond when I press sleep.

Nagesh answers:

Well you want to TURN OFF your TV set when you fall asleep so…….

LOOK in your TV menu first, sometimes you have to set the clock for SLEEP MODE to activate….

In that same menu area, you should find the SLEEP and/or Alarm settings too….

IF THEY HAVE it, then you KNOW you have SLEEP capability….

And your SLEEP button should work…..

But if your REMOTE has SLEEP and it doesn’t work on your TV set, then that model NEVER had it in the first place….

Those remotes are generally designed for several MODELS, not just one…..

That’s why you look in the menu for a sleep setting…..

As for the Direct TV remote, forget using that to access sleep modes…..

David asks…

How do you hook up a dvd player with a direct tv dvr to an old tv without the plugs? can’t figure modulator?

I have an old tv without the red, yellow and blue plugs. It works fine with Direct tv DVR. I tried to change out my broken DVD player and it doesnt’ work. HELP! I’ve tried using a RF modulator and can’t figure out how to plug everything in. My Direct tv DVR has a double cable in it from the wall. Please give simple instructions! Thanks!

Nagesh answers:

On the Direct receiver, locate the A/V outputs. Yellow for video, white/red for audio. Run A/V cable from those outs to to an input on the modulator, matching the colors. Do the same steps with the DVD player. Then connect a coaxial cable to the output of the modulator. Connect the other end to the coaxial input on the TV. Your modulator probably has a channel selector switch on it. Set it to channel 3. Tune the TV to channel 3 and leave it there. If the modulator doesn’t have a channel selector switch, it probably outputs on channel 3.

James asks…

Can you control your direct tv box wirelessly from a computer?

Ok we have a R15 Direct tv receiver/dvr and i was wondering if there is a program or some way to control it wirelessly from my computer from another room. Does anyone know how to do this?
Thanks!

Nagesh answers:

Well, sort of…

DirecTV lets you access your receiver over the internet. However I think that only lets you add or delete recordings.

You might want to also look into a SlingBox. Among its other functions, it gives you virtual remote on your computer screen to control your box.

Daniel asks…

How can you put direct tv recordings to your computer?

I would like to be able to put my direct tv recordings onto my computer, edit out the commercials, and load them onto a flash drive or server. I would also like to be able to play them back on my channel home theater receiver(doesn’t have direct tv hooked up to it) Is this possible? What is a good way to organize all of the tv shows?

Nagesh answers:

You need to capture the A/V playing from the box.

If you want that flexibility, should go to the direction of a PC based DVR, which records from the DirecTV box (or boxes) itslelf.
