How is pressure in a fluid exerted equally in all directions on a object?
How is pressure in a fluid exerted equally in all directions on a object? Wouldn’t it make more sense for greater pressure to be exerted downwards on an abject b/c of gravity?
Nagesh answers:
What you really need to understand is the physics of liquids. The molecules of liquids are in constant motion in every direction. Because of this, pressure due to gravity, or any other force, is transmitted in every direction, including upward, through the entire body of a fluid. Thus, for example, there is just as much pressure on a divers chest as there is on her back as she goes deeper, increasing as she goes deeper. That pressure is due to gravity, in that you are correct.

How do you ask for directions in 3 dimensional space?
I mean for outer-space travel. The only thing that I could think of is to have markings on your space ship and ask for directions in relation to them, but that could only be done when you are close to somebody. What I mean is if you could Communicate with somebody, but you are in a region of space that uses a different navigational format how could you relate.
Nagesh answers:
Same way as you do now…
We’re fairly sure that mathematical systems will be the same for all races that develop the skills we have (and beyond). So, Maths will be the way we find a way to translate their language into ours.
That said, there will be a basically vectorised system for describing how to get from one place to another. I’m not too sure of the form the vectors would take, but it would be something like a 12-element structure, with each value being one of the dimensions of the universe.
Stargate suggested that this would be seven or nine indicators (I know it’s fiction, but the basis of the gates were such that suggested a direction and magnitude), but it’s more likely to be 11 or 12 indicators in various combinations.

How do you give directions to somewhere?
Do you give north/south/east/west directions? Left/right? Approximate mileage? Landmarks? Expressways? Surface roads? A combination of all of the above?
Nagesh answers:
I use north/south/west type directions, but the women in my life don’t understand that. So I have to use landmarks – go to the hardware store and turn right.

Should I include directions to the church in the invitations?
We have directions to the reception printed on a matching card to the invitation, and the address to the church is on the invitation. But should I print out directions to the church? Is it necessary?
Nagesh answers:
I did for my out of town guests. It made things a little easier for them. You may also want to put any driving directions in your guests’ hotel rooms, people don’t always remember to bring their invitations/directions with them.

how to get turn by turn directions to rural address by fire number?
Need directions to an address in rural Ontario. Have the fire number, but can’t find turn by turn directions.
Nagesh answers:
Join the fire department? If you know this person why not just ask them. Cannot find directions because you are not using an address. Fire number is assigned by fire department and is used for information as to what is at the site for fire hazards and resources to fight fires at that location.
