Ruth asks…
Is this website legal?
I was just searching for cheaper ways of downloading music legally and I found a round-up article of all the best ones. One that intersted me was UltraMusicDownloads.com. You have to make a one-time payment of $20 (£10-15 I suppose) and you can download free music and movies.
According to the guy who wrote the article, it’s legal but I’m not sure. If it is legal, what are the catches?
Are there any better options?
Actually it was $34.95
Nagesh answers:
First of all, we’ve all heard of LIMEWIRE and IMESH. These are all similar to UltraMusicDownloads.com. Unfortunately, no matter how good the site says it is UltraMusicDownloads has actually been reported for handling viruses and malware. This being in the downloads and will make your computer run much slower and increase the amount of pop-ups. The law says, that if you obtain music without a purchase then that is one sale gone from the artist. Therefore, this is classified as minor STEALING. Although, there are a few websites out there that HAVE gotten permission from certain artists, record companies and the government to allow redistrubition of products after one fee, which then a fraction of that will then be distributed to them.

Where can I legally get the first Harry Potter movie in Swedish?
I live in the US. I have a region-free DVD player, but I can’t find a place that will sell it outside Europe for a reasonable price (99 Euros is, what, $200?! And that’s BEFORE s&h). I’d like to download it (legally). It’s my favorite movie in the whole world, and Swedish is my favorite language in the whole world – I’d love to learn it.
Nagesh answers:
Http://www.megastore.se ships outside Sweden, and are carrying all the harry potter movies.
The one you want is probably this one (English and Swedish audio track, and likely subtitles too, listening along with the subtitles is a great way to help pick up a language): http://www.megastore.se/template/next%2CProduct.vm?itemid=943995
(or http://english.megastore.se/template/next%2CProduct.vm?itemid=943995 if that works, has the price as 11.49 €)
Do note these are region 2 DVDs, I don’t know where you’re from, but they may not play on your player without switching it, and you can only switch region a limited number of times.
I have no affiliation with megastore, just had several friends use them to get hold of Swedish music that was hard to buy elsewhere and all were quite happy.

Is it legal for a friend to send his legally downloaded music to me?
Is it okay if I then send it to another friend?
Or does everyone have to buy a copy for himself/herself?
Now what about movies?
Is it legal for a friend to burn his legal copy of a movie and give it to me for free?
Is it legal for me to burn the copy and give it to another friend for free?
Nagesh answers:
If you are not selling it you would not be in violation.
