Nagesh answers:

Skyrim requires DirectX 9. If you have Windows XP, have run Windows Update reasonably often, and have a DX9 capable card, then you already have DirectX 9 and have no need to update. The same goes for Vista and DX10 and Win7 and DX11. You might want to tell us more about your computer. Operating system? CPU? RAM? Video card?

Daniel asks…

Is it possible to downgrade DirectX?

I downloaded a cracked Vista DirectX 10 for XP and I’m not sure it works flawlessly so I want to downgrade it back to 9.0c.Is it possible?

Nagesh answers:

Try installing the DirectX 10 from this website:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=5493F76A-6D37-478D-BA17-28B1CCA4865A&displaylang=en
After this installation everything should be fine. Installing cracks of a program isn’t always the best idea so try installing the normal version. And why did you crack it when there already is a full version to download on Microsofts webpage? Next time search the web before cracking.

Donald asks…

How to install older version of DirectX?

I have a program that uses 3D graphics. I have DirectX v10 installed. I haven’t been able to get the program to open yet and the tech support people said that it might be because I have v10 instead of v9 which the program was created for. I thought, easy fix. Wrong. When I try to install v9 it quits part way through when it discovers I have a newer version. How do I get around this??

Thanks
OK, I tried the majorgeeks link and the program didn’t do anything. I can’t install the v9 until I get rid of the v10. Now what??

Nagesh answers:

Unisntall DirectX using DirectX Happy Uninstall from
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4347.html
(can also be found doing a quick Google search)

Then try reinstalling DX9

Nagesh answers:

Try uninstalling both Warcraft and DirectX. Then, go to Microsoft and reinstall DirectX. Here’s the link:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=2DA43D38-DB71-4C1B-BC6A-9B6652CD92A3&displaylang=en

Once you’ve done that, install Warcraft, again. Sounds like a file didn’t install properly the first time and installing Warcraft AFTER DirectX might work.

Did you try doing the above? You might also want to try this:

1. UNINSTALL Warcraft.

2. RESTORE your pc to a date earlier than when you installed Warcraft.

3. Go to INTERNET OPTIONS. Under TEMPORARY FILES, click on Delete Cookies and Delete Files.

4. Go to System Tools, Disk Clean-Up and Disk Fragmenter. Follow prompts.

5. Reinstall DirectX from Microsoft (make sure to install the latest DirectX version BEFORE you install Warcraft).

6. Reinstall Warcraft

See if doing all that helps.

Good luck!

Paul asks…

Please help me…DirectX Problem?

I have an old notebook having s3 savage ix. I have a game needing directx 9 but doesnt work with my driver.

Since it is old, the manufacturer doesn’t upgrade drivers anymore.

Pls answer

Nagesh answers:

DirectX has nothing to do with drivers. Your laptop must be at least (minimum) 8 years old because that GPU is ancient.

I find it extremely unlikely that something with such ancient hardware could be upgraded. Look online for a new laptop with a GPU that supports DirectX 9.0c, with that you will not have any issues with compatibility.
