Your Questions About Direct Buy

Helen asks…

How do I get out of my Direct Buy contract?

I paid a down payment of $1300, and I have been paying $113/month.(for the last 5 months). We haven’t been able to buy a thing, because we were mislead as to what manufacturers we would have access to. They are too cloak and dagger when they want you to join Direct Buy. Yet, foolishly we joined. Every manufacturer we want…isn’t partnered with Direct Buy. Only old fogie type furniture etc. What if I stop my payments? How can I get out of this contract? I don’t want to pay another $2500 to this company!

Nagesh answers:

It would cost less to talk to an attorney than it would to pay another 2500. Explain your case and see what he can come up with.

Steven asks…

Should I list my items as bid or direct buy?

Is it cheaper for a beginning seller to list bid or direct buy items? Also, which is the cheapest shipping methods for books and clothing?

Nagesh answers:

If you are just starting off as an eBay seller I recommend auction (bid) format; although depending on what you are selling the fee’s you will pay will vary. When you list an item on eBay, you’re charged an Insertion Fee. If the item sells, you are also charged a Final Value Fee. The total cost of selling an item is the Insertion Fee plus the Final Value Fee.

This basic fee structure depends on whether you’re selling the item using an auction-style listing or selling the item at a fixed price. See http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/fees.html for fee structure.

In regards to shipping costs; USPS is very inexpensive compared to UPS. These are the two main shipping providers if you want to process your shipping costs through your Pay Pal account. USPS have eBay branded boxes that they will send to you for free or you can pick up flat rate boxes at the post office. However, there are size and weight limitations but for most items USPS is the most cost effective.

Donna asks…

how much does “direct buy” club cost, and is it worth it?

there is a club called “direct buy” that wants us to come to an ‘open house’ and learn more. they won’t tell us pricing until we come. what’s the real story? we don’t want to waste our time. we are in a major project, and will be buying all new appliances, etc., so potentially it could be good for us – but is it better than home depot, costco, north american wholesale club, etc.?

Nagesh answers:

Spending $35.00 a year in order to shop at Sam’s Club is one thing, but spending $500.00 or more to join one of these direct buy clubs is another. Most of these types of outfits go out of business in a couple of years and guess who is left holding the bag. They have been around for a long time. My sister and her husband got talked into a membership that cost them $500.00 to join in 1976. They never made the first purchase at the place. It went out of business in 1978.

The bottom line is that these businesses are in the business of selling memberships. What they do have to offer is usually off brand shoddy merchandise at best. Run from this outfit as fast as you can.

Good luck with your decision.

Rugs Direct NOT Direct Buy question about oriental rugs?

Rugs Direct is not the same company as Direct Buy. Has anyone ordered a rug from them? I looked up customer complaints and all I got was the top 500 Companies for good Internet Service and they were one of them. But I’m still afraid to purchase an area rug from them.
Jennifer, that’s what I wanted to hear. I got so excited when I read your answer.
Thanks I thought they were reputable.

Nagesh answers:

My bf’s mom has ordered all of her rugs from there and they are of the highest quality for a great price. We are going to order from them soon. I suggest going tot heir clearance section too, they have rugs that someone has ordered and returned (not damaged) and rugs they are almost out of discounted a lot. So definately look into that and see if there is somehting that fits what you need.

All in all- i highly suggest them
