Your Questions About Direct Buy

Ruth asks…

Does anyone know how much is the membership for the Direct Buy furniture store?

There is a furniture call Direct Buy and I want to know how much is their memebership and if the prices are low like they say.

Nagesh answers:

Last I heard it was around 5G and a monthly fee for the first year.

George asks…

Should I go to Direct Buy open house?

I got an invitation from Direct Buy to take part in a giveaway and am “guaranteed to win 2 of the listed prizes” on the invitation just for coming to the open house. The invitation says no purchase is required. This is something that I’m seriously interested in. I know I’m in for a hard sell and have no problem saying no if the membership fee is too high, but I’m wondering if I’ll still get my “guaranteed prizes” if I don’t sign up?

Nagesh answers:

Yes you will get your guaranteed prizes, even if you dont sign up. Dont expect great prizes, but yea, u will get them nonetheless. The only condition is that you go and attend the open house.

Linda asks…

Is becoming a member of Direct Buy furnishings worth it?

Nancy asks…

Can someone give some details about Direct Buy? I need to know about the cost of membership and other details?

I already know about the basic premise of buying at manufacturer pricing, as well as some of the commercial advertising they present. I am interested in other details that are presented to the prospective member while inside Direct Buy that are not eluded to. Thank you.

Let me know some of the other questions you have and also check out my profile as I have answered a few questions on DB and these may help you also. Either way, feel free to ask more.

It does depend on where you live, but I can give you some estimates, that are probably pretty close. All in all, we paid 4999 up front, which gives us the membership and the extension for a three year period. After this, there is no other charge related to the membership.

They have a website (for members, not the one you see), where they say you can order things, but most times the product is not able to be ordered online, but it is a good place for you to look for items and get the basic beginning price of what you will pay. Then add your sales tax plus another 8% (handling) and another 8% or so for shipping (which is shipping to them, not to your house).

If you truly want to have things go relatively smoothly, do your research yourself on the web with your product, go in to the store and get with one of their people and give them all of the information. Don’t be surprised if they have to do some calling, because what you see is not necessarily what you get. In other words, they still may not be able to get it and/or the price may have changed.

If you do go into their showroom to get your merchandise, be prepared to be dazzled by their associates inability to do much and the looking through the catalogs is a waste of time and silly when you get down to realize that they are mostly old and non-representable of what you can actually get. My point, is just do your own research on the products and only go to the showroom to order things or for brief searches. I looked at jewelry at the showroom and that was fine and probably necessary and then I went home and looked at the products on line for better clarity.

The biggest problem, outside of poor management and their lies, is their breadth of product which is amazingly small, and even smaller when you consider how they act like they have nearly everything under the sun.

If you are seriously considering DB, ask me some more questions and read what I have to say. Certainly get all kinds of opinions, but I have not really heard much great (sometimes good, but not great) feedback, but I will tell you striaight and tell you how you can maximize your savings if you do go with DB.

Michael asks…

Is Direct Buy REALLY a good deal for kitchen cabinets?

I keep seeing the commerical for Direct Buy, and would like anyone’s input on it, whether or not they’ve had a good or bad experience.. or if it’s too good to be true for saving money! Thanks!

Nagesh answers:

I have heard very bad things about them. Like that you go there for the “meeting” and they try to coerce you to join and you have to make a decision wether to or not. You can go to
www.ripoffreport.com and you will find tons of complaints about them.

I addition to other poster’s suggestions, you could try finding a place that “sells kitchens”. Basically what they are is they have entire kitchens in excellent condition taken out of people’s homes- people who, for whatever reason, decide to do their kitchens. The counters and cabinets are usually intact and good condition and sold for much cheaper than in a store. Also, in some places, (Don’t know if a Lowes or Home Depot would) some people order cabinets/countertops and then decide they do not want them. They are usually sold at way cheaper prices.
